7/22 - 2nd Annual Daniel Kelley Twilight Mile - St. Joseph Sea
The 108 degree heat didn't stop 220 competitors from registering and over 500 to show their support to honor the late DK. 
Former Villanova captain Dan Lewis won the Elite Men's Race in 4:24.  Victoria Pontecorvo, a Rutgers Univ. junior,
defended her crown in the Elite Women's Race.  Close to 65 Sea Track Alumni turn-out for a great day!  We thank
everyone who entered and showed up despite the unfavorable conditions.  Special thanks go out to: Volunteer Heart,
McGinn's, Great Kills Swim Club and the administration of St. Joseph by-the-Sea as well as our numerous volunteers.

6/10 - NY State Champs - Caledonia, N.Y.
Meena Farid just misses the finals in the discus.  

6/5 - Eastern States Champs - Iona Prep H.S.

The top athletes that take the trip to New Rochelle have a solid meet while earning 6 Championship medals. 
Adam Civitano wins the 400IH (56pt) while Bobby Mirfield takes 2nd in the 110HH (15.44).  Meena Farid
places 2nd in the shot put (51'-9.5) and third in the discus (153'-4).  Anthony Galano finishes in 5th place in
the javelin (142'-6).  Junior Liam Vogt earns a 5th place medal in the LJ with a 21'-7 jump.  He was flirting
with history as he had a 22' high, 23' low slight foul in the trials which certainly bodes well for next year.

5/31 - Fast Times Relays - Warwick Valley H.S.
The Varsity 4x800 records a team best 8:03.20 in its season finale.  Bobby Mirfield debuts in his first 800
while leading off in 2:08.5  Adam Civitano continued his fine running with a 1:54.7 carry and Alex Civitano
set a PR with a 1:57.3.  Paulie Brancale anchored with a PR in 2:02.6.  Other 800 PR's included Sam
Mondello (2:11.4) and Luigi Tirro (2:11.8). Ray Mondello set a PR in the 400 on the double with a
56.7 split.

  The 4x800 ended the 2010-2011 year with a seasonal best - 8:03.20 FAT

5/28 - CHSAA Intersectionals - Icahn Stadium
Big Meena Farid wins the discus throw on his final throw in the trials to lead the team to 4th place in the
 team standings.  This is our best finish since 1998!  He also added a second place in the shot put.  Capt.
Adam Civitano rebounded after a tough year with his best performance in the 400IH just missing a win. 
His 54.15 FAT time is a new school record and 3rd fastest in S.I. History.   He later added a 3rd place
in the 400.  Bobby Mirfield placed 3rd in the 400IH and 110HH.  Senior Anthony Galano placed 4th
in the javelin with a new PR of 158-9"

5/24 - Frosh Islands - Farrell H.S.
Chris Esposito leads the charge while winning the S.I. Freshmen Championship in the 400 IH.  He
later added a silver medal in the 110 HH.  Nick Dantuono takes 2nd in the TJ and 4th in the LJ. 
Chris Ford records a personal best in the 400 en route to a 5th place performance.

5/23 - Frosh/Soph Sectionals - Iona Prep H.S.
Phil Blanda leads the charge on the day while winning a Sectional Title in the long jump.  He added
a third place finish in the triple jump.  Sophs Jack Logan  (110
HH), Mike Ceciliani (800) and Alex Rosenbauer (400) earn third place medals in their events. 
Frank DeLeo drops the hammer with a 6 second PR in the Soph 4x800 to nail down 3rd place on
the final straightaway.  Freshmen Nick Dantuono takes 2nd in the triple jump.  Chris Esposito
records a personal best in the 110HH en route to a 5th place finish.

5/21 - NYCHSAA Sectionals - Icahn Stadium
Four Sectional Champions are crowned on the day.  Meena Farid wins the "Field MVP" based on
his victories in the shot put and the discus.  He came from behind in both events.  Adam Civitano
unleashes a big kick to win the 800.  Bobby Mirfield wins the 110 HH with a new personal best
of 15.31 FAT.  Silver Medalists included: Anthony Galano (Javelin), Liam Vogt (Long Jump) and
Adam Civitano (400 IH)  The 4x100 makes the finals and takes 5th place!  The vaulters both PR
and set new personal bests with 11'-6" jumps.  Ray Mondello and Andrew Khoury break out in the
800.  The team was competitive throughout the entire meet but a few things didn't break our way. 
 However, after today's 3rd place finish, the varsity team has placed in the Top 3 at all NYCHSAA
Sectional meets (XC, Indoor & Outdoor) for the last two years.  The only team in the NYCHSAA
to do so!

5/12 - 5/14 - Louck's Games - White Plains H.S.
The Vikings have some solid performances at the three day meet.  On Thursday, the Soph DMR
broke a school record from 2004.  Sam Mondello, Alex Rosenbauer, Mike Ceciliani and Luigi
Tirro break the record by 25 seconds!  Rosenbauer runs 56 pt and Tirro breaks the 5 minute barrier! 
On Friday, Meena Farid gets back into form in the shot put with a 51-10.25" toss, good enough for
4th place.  Junior Jerry Mattia breaks the 20 foot barrier!  Not too bad considering he never broke
18 feet last year! 

5/6 - 5/7 - St. Anthony's Invitational - St. Anthony's H.S.
Meena Farid takes second place in the discus with a 148-7" toss. On Saturday, Anthony Galano
records his first victory en route to a personal best in the javelin with a throw of 154-9".  Alex
Civitano records a personal best in the 1600 with a time of 4:22.64 FAT, good enough for 4th place. 
Soph Sam Mondello sets a PR and just misses breaking 4:50.  The Frosh/Soph 4x400 runners
record personal bests as well.

5/4 - Staten Island Champs - Farrell H.S.
The Vikings battle in yet another cold and damp weather day.  The team is competitive throughout
while crowning 5 Island Champions.  Meena Farid defended his discus crown with another school
record (153-10") and added the shot put title as well.  Bobby Mirfield, who didn't even score at the
freshmen islands, won the 400 IH and 110 HH.  Alex Civitano sat off the leaders and unleashed a
furious kick to upset the field in the 1600.  Silver medalists included Jerry Mattia (LJ), Andrew Musco
(PV) and Adam Civitano (400).  The team is currently sitting in 2nd place with the javelin to be
contested at a later time.

This was a much needed competitive boost for the team as it prepares for the Sectionals and
 Intersectionals.

4/29-4/30 - Penn Relays - UPENN

4/20 - VIKING INVITATIONAL - SEA
Hosting our own meet for the first time in 8 years; St. Joe's has a great showing.  Event winners
included: Adam Civitano (400 IH), Bobby Mirfield (110 HH), Meena Farid (Shot & Disc) and
Jerry Mattia (LJ).  The team comes away with 36 medals on the day.  Big Meena's 150'11"
discus toss breaks his previous school record.  The sophs place 5th in the Varsity 4x1600 en
route to breaking the soph school record.

The meet ran flawlessly and that was based on an unbelievable outpouring of support from our
parents and alumni.  There were close to 40 parents and alumni helping out at all of the events.

4/16 - DAY TWO - New York Relays - Icahn Stadium
No Bus? - No Warm-up? - No problem!
After the bus doesn't show up, we take 2 carloads of athletes up to compete at Randall's Island and
barely miss our first event.  In the Invite 4x1600, Paulie Brancale led off with a big PR in 4:41.  Alex Civitano
went out like an animal to get to the lead pack - in 60pt!  He was rewarded with a 4:23.8 PR.  Sam Mondello
just misses his PR and Tyler Franco runs solid with a new 1600 PR.  In the Invitational Javelin, Anthony Galano
cracks the 150 mark and Matt Dudziec throws over 130 feet.  Bobby Mirfield, 6th in the trials, placed 5th in the
 final.  The small squad made the most of what could've been a wasted day!

4/15 - DAY ONE - New York Relays - Icahn Stadium
Meena Farid takes 2nd place in the "Invitational Discus" with a big PR of 145'-4".  His toss is the longest
discus throw in Sea history!  Bobby Mirfield qualifies for the finals in the "Invitational 110 HH."

4/15 - Staten Island Relays - Farrell H.S.
The LJ and PV Relays finish in first place.  In the LJ Relay, Phil Blanda soared over 19 feet and combined
with Jerry Mattia (18'11") for the first place win.  The PV Relay saw Charles Gildersleeve and Andrew
Musco both clear 10'6".  For Gildersleeve, this is a 1'6" personal best!  Luigi Tirro snaps the Soph 2,000
school record with a 6:58.9 time.


Congratulations to Adam Civitano for being accepted to compete in the Penn Relays 400 IH - an
honor only 15 athletes nation-wide have received. In the race there are 10 boys from Jamaica and
2 from Barbados!


4/9 - DAY TWO - Mayor's Cup Champs - Icahn Stadium
Adam Civitano (400) and Meena Farid (Shot) earn third place medals.  Nick Connors breaks 2:10 and Tom
Schneider smashes 5 minutes while Luigi Tirro just misses.  Chuck Gildersleeve clears 9 feet and Jerry Mattia
soars over 19 feet in the LJ. 

4/8 - DAY ONE - Mayor's Cup Champs - Icahn Stadium

Bobby Mirfield has a great day at Randall's Island.  He starts off by winning the 2nd heat of the 400 IH with a PR
and follows that up with a huge race in the 110 HH.  He smashes his PR with a 15.44 FAT, the 2nd fastest time in
Sea history.  He runs the same time in the final which was good enough for third place overall.  Jerry Mattia continues
 his dramatic improvements; this time going 39 feet!  He has gone from 34 feet indoors to 39 feet in the TJ outdoors
 thus far.

4/2 - Farrell Invitational - Farrell H.S.
The outdoor season kicks off with some nice performances in the windy conditions at Farrell.  The Jav Relay of
Anthony Galano and Andrew Musco finish in 2nd place.  Matt Dudziec and Jon Hernandez make up the "B" team
that took 5th place.  The Jav throwers improved an average of 15 feet in their season opener!  The LJ Relay of Phil
Blanda and Jerry Mattia earn silver medals.  Mattia would later smash his TJ PR by 3 feet!  Bobby Mirfield breaks
60 seconds in the 400 IH to lead the 3x400 IH to 3rd place medals.  Luigi Tirro and Frank DeLeo set PR's in the
soph 4x800 as the relay finished in 5th place. 

Indoor Track & Field Season
3/11-3/13 - New Balance Indoor Nationals - Armory
Big Meena Farid throws over 50 feet in the Emerging Elite Shot Put and earns a 5th place medal.  In the competition,
there were athletes from 14 different states.  Bobby Mirfield and Liam Vogt compete in the Emerging Elite 60 HH and
 LJ, respectively.  On Saturday, the 4x800 ran and was paced by PR's by George Setteducato (2:01.7) and
Tyler Franco (2:05.9)

3/5 - NY State Champs - Cornell Univ.
Seniors Adam Civitano and Meena Farid and junior Liam Vogt compete in the NY State Championships at Barton Hall. 

3/1 - Eastern State Champs - Armory
SUB 8!!  Bobby Mirfield becomes only the second Sea hurdler to crack the 8 second barrier with a 7.96 clocking. 
Liam Vogt continues his string of great jumping with a 6th place finish in a new personal record of 21'-7".  Liam is now
the 2nd best long jumper in Sea history behind the great Adam Risi.  Mirfield would later come back and run the
2nd leg of the 4x400 relay in 52.9.  The team recorded a seasonal best in 3:32.01 FAT.

2/19 -84th CHSAA Intersectionals - Armory
Big Meena Farid cops his first intersectional title in a great competition in the shot put.  Farid tied the second place
competitor but the tie was broken based on second throws.  Adam Civitano makes his return to racing for the first
time in three weeks with a new school record and near win in the 600.  Junior Liam Vogt has a huge day in the long
jump by placing third with 2 jumps over 21 feet, big personal bests!  Bobby Mirfield just misses winning a city title
with a lean at the line.  Mid-Distance group runs big PR's in the 4x400's and Sam Mondello shatters 5 minutes!

2/6 - Frosh/Soph Intersectionals - Armory
Freshmen Nick D'Addesa snaps an 8 year old school record from Frank Recce '06 en route to a fourth place
finish in the 1,000.  Soph Phil Blanda earns a city championship medal by placing 5th in the long jump.  Senior
Thrower Mike Cipriani lights up the Armory track with a fast 200 split.

1/28 - 104th Millrose Games - Madison Square Garden

St. Joe's competes in the nation's oldest indoor professional track meet. Over 100 friends and family pack out
the section for a fun-filled night.

     Vikings win a thriller at the Armory for   
        Sea's First Varsity Sectional Title

1/23 - NYCHSAA Sectionals - Armory
The Vikings avenge last week's S.I. Champs loss in dramatic fashion with a come from behind victory at the
Armory. The team rides a bunch of "quality" performances including Sectional Champions Adam Civitano
(400 & 800), Bobby Mirfield (55 HH) and the 4x800 Relay of George Setteducato, Tyler Franco, Paul
Brancale and Alex Civitano. Adam Civitano's two victories earned him the "Track MVP" Award, his second
MVP award in as many meets. Silver Medalists included Alex Civitano (1000), Liam Vogt (LJ & TJ) and
Meena Farid (Shot). Bobby Mirfield and Nick Connors run big races in the 400 to just miss getting in the
scoring. Freshmen Nick D'Addesa breaks five in the 1600 to earn a bronze medal in the freshmen division.

1/16 - Staten Island Champs - Armory     1/17 - History & Records Updated
The Vikings make a valiant effort to defend their title with amazing performances throughout the day but
Farrell has more depth for the win.  A school record SEVEN Island Champions were crowned on the day
including Track MVP Adam Civitano and Field MVP Liam Vogt.  Civitano won the 1,000 with a big kick
and came back to take the 600.  His 600 time knocks down a school record from 1999 which was held by
Jimmy Melvin '00.  Junior Liam Vogt steps up to the big stage with victories and personal bests in the Triple
Jump and Long Jump.  Alex Civitano showed poise in the 1,600 utilizing a big kick for the win.  Bobby
Mirfield was spectacular in the 55 HH and earned his first Island Crown with a big PR.  Meena "1 Point"
Farid rebounded and won the shot put handidly.  St. Joe's won 7 out of the 15 events that were contested.
The Vikings fought tooth and nail throughout the meet and that was quite evident by the amount of PR's. 
You should be proud of yourselves and look forward to the Sectionals and Intersectionals!

1/13 - Millrose Trials - Armory
The Vikings qualify for their fourth consecutive Millrose Games berth which has followed a 10 year
drought for for the team. George Setteducato led off in fourth and Alex Civitano ran a huge second
leg to have the Vikings just off the lead. Paul Brancale and Adam Civitano are competitive enough to
hold down the most important position, a top 6 finish, for a trip to the Garden. Lots of 800 PR's were
recorded on the day as well. Thanks to the alumni who came out for this important day!


1/8 - Hispanic Games - Armory
Liam Vogt leaps over the 20 feet barrier to lead the jumpers. Adam Civitano earns a 6th place medal
in the 800 in one of the nation's largest track meets.

1/2 - Novice Champs - Armory
The Vikings kick off the new year in fine fashion with a third place finish at the Novice Champs.  Liam
Vogt places second in the 55 as Andrew Musco wins the PV with a 10'-6 vault.  He later cleared 11
feet in the varsity portion of the pole vault. The 4x200 and 4x400 relays both earn medals and the
4x800 runs a very competitive race just missing a win.  Sam Mondello, on the double, crushed his PR
by 6 seconds.  Mike Carballiera wins the junior weight HJ and places third in the novice HJ by clearing
5'-6, a new personal best. Big Meena Farid wins the varsity shot put and the Varsity 4x400 gets fourth
place. Adam Civitano runs 50 pt and George Setteducato just misses breaking 52!  John Scanlon continues
to drop big PR's. In total, 31 medals were won on the day!

12/29 - Marine Corp Holiday Classic
The team shakes off some post holiday rust. The TJ Relay of Liam Vogt and Frank Sconzo place 5th in
taking down their second jumping school record this year.  George Setteducato runs a nice leg on the DMR
with a big PR of 2:02.  Brancale and Connors run 53 and 54 on the double!  (Photo Right - Liam Vogt and

     STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE ALL-STAR IN CROSS COUNTRY!  

12/18 - Bishop Loughlin Games - Armory
A light squad takes advantage of getting in some quality work at the Armory. Big Meena Farid places fifth
while again throwing over 50 feet. Senior Bobby Mirfield breaks out in the hurdles as Frank Sconzo also sets
 a PR. George Setteducato runs a nice 600 as Mike Fiechter and Nick Connors set PR's in the 300. 

12/18 - Ignatian Developmental Meet - Fordham
Soph Mike Ceciliani is the first soph to break 5 mins in the 1600.  Junior Rob Amparo jumps to a new PR in
 the HJ. 

12/11 - CHSAA Relay Carnival - Armory
The 2010-2011 indoor campaign kicks off in fine fashion as the team has a good day all around. The 4x800
Relay of George Setteducato, Alex Civitano, Paul Brancale and Adam Civitano take second in a fast 8:05.8,
which is the 2nd fastest time in NY state. The LJ Relay of Liam Vogt and Frank Sconzo place 2nd and break
the school record. Jerry Mattia and Phil Blanda post big LJ PR's as well.  In the shot relay, Big Meena Farid
tossed himself onto the NYS leaderboard while combining with Mike Cipriani to take silver medals.  The SHR
 of Bobby Mirfield, Frank Sconzo and Alex Gargiso finish in 5th place.  Freshmen Nick D'Addesa just misses
winning the frosh 1600 by running a fast 5:12. 
       
              A GREAT start to what should be a GREAT season!

11/28 - Mayor's Cup Relay Invitational - Armory
A few field athletes shake off the rust at the Armory.  Meena Farid & Mike Cipriani place 2nd in the shot put relay. 
Liam Vogt and Frank Sconzo place 3rd in the TJ Relay and 4th in the LJ Relay.  Andrew Musco makes his return to
the team an impressive one with a two foot PR in the PV.  Overall, the field guys take 3rd place overall in the meet.

Cross Country Season

Congrats to Alex Civitano (1st team) and Paulie Brancale (2nd team) for
                       being selected as SIHST&FA All-Stars

11/13 - CHSAA Intersectionals - VCP

11/7 - Frosh Islands - Clove Lakes

The freshmen close out their 1.5 careers at Clove Lakes.  Freshmen Nick D'Addesa, who missed 1 month of training
due to a broken wrist, sat on the leader through the halfway point.  He battled courageously, cast and all, to settle for
4th place in a 8:40 clocking.  He is the 5th fastest freshmen in Sea History.  The rest of the squad races well while recording
personal bests.  In the "B" race, Chris Ford and Joseph Rauchet crack the top 5.  The "A" team finishes in 4th place.

 AT INTERSECTIONALS
     #2 Team in NYC!
11/6 - Frosh/Soph Intersectionals - VCP
Daniel Acerra smashes his way on to the soph all-time lists with a scorching 14:18, which has him as the 6th fastest soph
in Sea History.  Sam Mondello breaks 14:50 and Luigi Tirro is the 4th soph this year to go under 15:00 mins.  All sophs in
the "B" race set PR's as well.  The team finishes in 5th place which certainly bodes well for the future.  The freshmen are led
by Peter Grassulo as 7/9 leave the day with a new PR.  In the Clipper Classic, 6/7 set pr's as Ray Mondello snaps 16 mins. 
In total, 15/19 varsity runners set new PR's as the team continues to roll at the right time.

11/2 - Staten Island Champs - Clove Lakes  11/2 - All-Time Lists/History Updated
With beautiful weather for racing, St. Joe's takes to the CLP trails in fine fashion. Alex Civitano races courageously and
finishes in 3rd place with a time of 16:49. His time is the 3rd fastest in Sea History!  Adam Civitano & Tyler Franco
(#10 JR AT) snap 18 mins and finally break out! Danny Acerra is the 5th man once again running 18:09, good enough for
4th on the soph all-time list! The Varsity team finishes in 2nd which ties our best finish in school history (1997)
     The JV continued the momentum as Luigi Tirro (#9 SO AT) paced the team to a tight, well fought 3rd place finish. Tom

D'Addesa's performance is the 8th fastest time for freshmen over the course. 13 athletes break 20 minutes on the day! 
     A phenomenal day for St Joe's XC team and a much needed lift for most after the Sectionals. The team is now primed and ready to
go at the CHSAA Cities on 11/13!

10/30 - NYCHSAA Sectionals - VCP
The Varsity holds on for 3rd place on a big kick by Soph Daniel Acerra who was the 5th man today.  Tom Schneider
sets a PR in the JV race as Alex Buttaro and Rob Micara break 16 mins.  Matt Ruocco sets a huge PR as well.  Freshmen
Nick D'Addesa returns to the trails after missing 1 month of training with a solid 9:51.  Greg Ruocco breaks out like his older
brother with a 95 second PR.  Evan Cafiero, Jonathan Goldman and Joey Quedera all break 11 mins!

10/16 - Brown Invitational - Goodark Park, Rhode Island
Seniors Alex Civitano (7th) and Paul Brancale (10th) crack 17:00 minutes and earn prestigious Brown medals.  Both of them
were under the previous school record of 16:53 held by Tim Whalen '04.  Sophs Daniel Acerra, Sam Mondello and Mike Ceciliani
continue to race well on the varsity level.  The varsity team finished in fourth place out of a total of 28 teams that raced.  Luigi Tirro
leads the JV team as Adam Barillas and Tom Schneider race well.  All in all it was a great weekend for St. Joe's XC program. 
Thanks to Mr. Civitano and Mr.  Ceciliani for helping chaperone the trip.

10/13 - Soph Sectionals - VCP
The sophs runs a very competitive race as Mike Ceciliani, Daniel Acerra and Sam Mondello crack the 15 minute barrier.  Luigi Tirro
just misses as the #4 man.  Sitting in 4th place going over the bridge the first time, the team drops 20 pts from the 1 mile mark to the
2.5 finish line.  Today's 2nd place finish is our best showing since the 1998 team won the meet.  The team also posted an impressive
15:08 5 man average.

10/9 - Manhattan College Invitational - VCP

Captain Alex Civitano makes his return to the trails in fine fashion with a 4th place finish in the "E" race by posting a 13:35 time.

14/16 Varsity/JV runners leave VCP with a new PR.  Mike Ceciliani leads 4 sophs under 15:15 as he is the first soph to
crack the 15 minute barrier.

Somerset, NJ – Wagner freshman  Daniel Zaccariello (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph By The Sea) earned his second Northeast Conference (NEC) Men's Cross Country of the Week citation for the week ending September 26. Zaccariello had previously earned the league's first-year honor for the week ending September 6..

Zaccariello turned in an impressive performance at the Ted Owen Invitational this past weekend to pick up his second NEC Rookie of the Week honor. The first-year Seahawk was the first rookie finisher out of the six NEC teams represented and finished third for the Green and White for the third consecutive week, registering a time of 27:57 for the 8K loop, placing 21st out of 75 runners.

Both cross country teams will be back in action on Saturday, Friday 8 at the METS Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

 

9/25 - Suffolk Coaches Invitational - Sunken Meadow
Sam Mondello continues to race well this time leading Luigi Tirro and Mike Ceciliani under 20 minutes on the tough
 5K course.  The sophs finished in 4th place.  Nick D'Addesa crushes the freshmen school course record by more
than 20 seconds.

9/18 - Regis Invitational - VCP
Paul Brancale continues to roll with a scorching 6th place finish running 13:34, good enough for #5 on the All-Time list. 
Alex Civitano battles his way under 14 mins as well.  Tommy Schneider leads the juniors with a big PR while smashing
16 minutes.  Three sophs are under 16 mins while a large amount of the soph team set big PR's.  Nick D'Addesa leads
the frosh time just missing an all-time list performance.

9/11 - Breen Invitational - Clove Lakes
XC 2010 gets kicked off on a beautiful day in Staten Island.  Paulie Brancale lights up the trails with a #8 ALL-TIME
performance while placing third.  Sophs Mike Ceciliani and Daniel Acerra also fare well in their varsity debuts.  Soph
Luigi Tirro paces the JV with a 7th place showing.  Nick D'Addesa leads the freshmen to second place in the team
standings with a fast 9:09 clocking.
