5/30 - Frosh Islands - Farrell H.S.
The frosh squad earns a hard fought 3rd place plaque. Brandon Prato
wins the discus and places 2nd in the shot. Tom

5/19 - NYCHSAA Sectionals - Icahn Stadium
Liam Vogt captures the "Outstanding Field Performer" at the meet for his
victories in the LJ/TJ. In both jumps, he came from behind

Farrell had to take an additional 8 jumps
to break the tie. Vogt/Russell
combined to win all 3 jumping events as they did indoors. Rob Amparo tied
for 3rd place in the high
jump as well. Luigi Tirro placed 5th in the
steeple with a 10 sec PR. Frosh Vin Claro continues his record setting
season by knocking
close to 1 minute off the frosh 3k steeple record. John
Scanlon drops 3 seconds in the 800.
Liam Vogt - The Indoor & Outdoor NYCHSAA TJ & LJ Sectional Champion
5/12 - Frosh/Soph Intersectionals - Icahn Stadium
Two athletes, two school records! Vin Claro kicks things off with a new
school record in the frosh 2,000 steeple with a 4th place finish -
7:07.85 FAT.
The old record was held by Alex Civitano '11. Brandon Prato sets yet
another PR in the discus with a new frosh record
toss of 120'-7". The old
frosh record was set by Vin Ortado in 1999. Prato finished in 2nd place.
At Louck's, Matt Dudziec throws the jav for a personal
best - 147'-4".
Brandon Prato (Discus) & Vin Claro (2,000
Steeple) - Frosh Record Holders
5/11 - Massapequa Chief Invitational - Massapequa H.S.
MID-DISTANCE REBOUND!
The mid-distance runners bounce back for some nice PR's. Adam
Ba"r"illas kicks things off with a big
PR in the unseeded 800 - 2:03.5.
The momentum continued with Tyler Franco breaking 4:50, with a 4:46.3 time in
the 1600. Luigi Tirro
& Sam Mondello ran with some guts for PR's of 2:04.9
and 2:05.1 respectively. Tom Schneider also set a new 1600 PR, 4:50.2.
Six
frosh set PR's in the unseeded 400. Rob Amparo has some solid jumps at
6'-0" but settles for 5'-10", which was good enough for 3rd place.
5/9 - Frosh/Soph Sectionals - Farrell
Some incredible performances by the freshmen. Freshmen Vin Claro
(right) breaks 5 minutes to earn a 3rd place medal. He ran 5:51.7 in his
first 1600 in Dec! He joins a short list of Sub-5 Frosh. Brandon
Prato continues to amaze in the throws. He tossed the disc 117'-2 to place
second - a 10 foot improvement. He also earned a third place medal in the
shot with a 3 foot PR, 46'-8". The Frosh 4x2 of Joe Chirelli, Vin
Claro,
Mike Italiano & Tom Geoghegan set a 3 second personal best, 1:45.2. Ray

Matt Dudziec wins the S.I. Championship in the javelin with a new PR 143'-4".
Brian Russell, a non-scoring athlete (SI league rules prohibit
athletes from
scoring while doing 2 concurrent sports) crushes the varsity high jump record.
He first sailed out 6-6.25" for the record then
cleared 6'-7" (1st attempt) and
6'-8" on his second attempt. He had two very solid jumps at 6'-9" as well.
Brian currently sits 9th on the
CHSAA All-Time list. Rob Amparo ties for 2nd in the HJ with a new PR 5'-10". Sam Mondello sets
a big PR in the 1600 for 3rd place -
4:37.92 FAT. Freshmen Brandon Prato
double-scores with throws of 38'-0 in the shot (4th) and 103'-6" in the disc
(5th). Nick Connors takes
3rd in the 400IH and Mike Ceciliani earns a 4th
place medal in the 800. High hurdlers Jack Logan (4th) and Alex
Gargiso (6th) hit the medal
stand as well. Logan set a big PR in the
trials. The 4x100 "B" guys step up for 4th as does the 4x400 relay - 3rd
place. The 4x800 scores two
relays with the teams finishing in second and
6th places. Team-wise, the guys fought valiantly but a few tough breaks keep us
from getting into the Top 3.

Brian Russell (right) cleared 6'-3.25 in his first attempt and 6'-5 in his
third jump. He had three solid attempts at 6'-6.75, which would've broken
the school
record and placed him fifth. In his last attempt, he actually
hit the bar on the way down. He finished in a tie for 13th place out of 23
competitors. Liam Vogt
had a solid series of 21'-7, 21'-6 and 21'-0.
He finished in 13th out of 28 competitors and was only 6 inches from making the
finals. Both Russell & Vogt
competed against athletes from Jamaica,
Barbados, Zimbabwe as well as many states in the U.S. A tremendous honor
for our track & field program.
4/21 - Big Blue Track & Field
Classic - Sea
A tremendous effort was put forth to showcase our home meet. We had an
outpouring of close to 100 alumni & volunteers. Both the boys & girls on
the team
took the responsibility of hosting this meet seriously &
professionally. Thanks to everyone who stepped up to the plate at the
meet. We were blessed with the
bst weather of the outdoor season so far.
We were honored to have the families of Dan Kelley '04, Adam Ogbu '99 and Luke
Parlatore '02 on hand to present
plaques in events named in their sons memory.
You represented your team & your school admirably. Well done!
The team had a day full of nice performances. Brian Russell won the

three event winner - LJ-100-200 and sets 2 meet
record in the LJ/100. The
Blue team's 4x800 breaks a meet record as the Gray team established a meet
record in the Swedish Relay (400-300-200-100).
All in all, a fun day of
track & field at St. Joe's.

Despite being sick at home most of the week, Brian Russell leaps a personal
best 6'-6 in the high jump. Russell's jump only had him finish in 7th
place in one of the most competitive
high jumps in recent years. In the
last five years his 6'-6 jump would've had him place in the top 3! Liam
Vogt has a tough day at the pit but still has one more indoor meet to go having
already qualified for the New Balance Nationals.

The varsity 4x200 sets a seasonal best with a 1:36.32 FAT on a sizzling fast leg
by Phil Blanda, 23.3. Rosie breaks 25!
Mike Russell breaks a 16 year old school record in the Frosh HJ.
1/28 - Mayor's Cup Champs - Armory
Liam Vogt is the "Best in the City" in the long jump and Brian Russell
places 4th with a PR of 20'-6". Russell would later take 2nd in the high
jump and narrowly miss 6'-6" on three great attempts.
Frank DeLeo, Joe
Carrara & Craig Benigno break 26 seconds in the 200. Unfortunately for the
mid-distance runners, the meet cancelled the 1600, 4x4 and 4x8 so the team has
to hurry into the 600.
All wasn't lost as Tyler Franco and Nick D'Addesa
run a solid 1:30 - which hopefully should be a sign of things to come.
